Founder and Chair of The Collier Companies, Nathan S. Collier, and Culture Performance Leader, Crystal Miner, traveled to host Cultural Immersion at The Preserve in Tallahassee at 11a on Monday, October 31st.
Nathan begins Cultural Immersion by sharing TCC’s Origin Story—our humble beginnings 50 years ago with his first real estate purchase, a $1,000 down investment in a single rental home at the age of 20. Having no money to speak of but blessed with entrepreneurial energy, it took Nathan 8 years to accumulate a portfolio of 24 or 25 houses around the University of Florida, all owner financed with low or nothing down payments. Nathan’s civil engineer father taught him to be a DIYer; as a result, Nathan was a fair jack of all trades and for years, he did much of his own maintenance. It would take him another decade to assemble an institutional-sized apartment complex over a twenty-block area in College Park neighborhood north of the University of Florida, cobbled together from over two dozen small developments, once again mainly via low/no down owner financing.
Nathan then moves on to the values that are the foundation of our culture: our commitment to Stewardship Leadership, our duty to all Stakeholders, the Social Contract, and the principles laid out in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven R. Covey. These comprise the Collier Difference that sets us apart from other organizations.
Our Mission Statement is “Proudly Making Your Home the Heart of Our Business.”
We deliver on that Mission Statement by being committed to
Constant And Never-ending Improvement (CANI)
and utilizing our Initiative & Resourcefulness (I&R) to find solutions that are both
Effective & Efficient (E&E) that we implement via IIT.
A fun learning tradition at The Collier Companies, Book Clubs are an enjoyable way we grow together, strengthen communication among Team Members, encourage continuous improvement, and help us achieve our Vision. Nathan has curated a list of essential books for personal and professional growth among Team Members. In addition to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, these books have been carefully selected to help you uncover your untapped value and maximize your impact in our organization.
7 Habits of Highly Effective People provides the framework for our success, Thanks for the Feedback helps us grow through open constructive criticism, Upstream helps us identify faulty systems to solve problems before they happen, and Crucial Conversations helps us manage healthy communication patterns for facilitating helpful shifts in attitude and behavior among ourselves and others.
