Gainesville, FL — The Collier Companies, a multifamily real estate developer founded by visionary entrepreneur, Nathan S. Collier, is a key sponsor of From the Ground Up: Flipping the Hood in furtherance of his commitment to use education as means to improve one’s socio-economic status. In addition to its sponsorship, The Collier Companies’ Chief of Staff, Angela Tharpe will be joined by other women of color on a panel, “Who Runs the World? – Black Women in Real Estate.” Tharpe reinforces her organization’s commitment to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and community building, and hopes to inspire others to reach for the stars and introduce them to the many facets of real estate as a viable career option to build and maintain wealth. Her presence exudes a sense of gravitas and empowerment that is sure to linger long after the event.
In a time where the real estate industry is grappling with diversity and inclusivity issues, this groundbreaking event is set to unfold in Brooklyn, New York on May 12 and 13, 2023, to empower young people of color with education and career opportunities in fields where minority representation is disproportionately low. From the Ground Up: Flipping the Hood is the brainchild of Dr. Malik Yoba, a three-time NAACP Image Award winner and founder and CEO of Yoba Development. The two-day activation aims to foster generational wealth building and bring together professionals and entrepreneurs of color from various fields, including mental health, real estate development, finance, culture, and investments. This event offers opportunities for the community at large but, especially, young people of color to explore education and career pathways that have been traditionally inaccessible.
Over the past 16 years, Dr. Malik Yoba has emerged as a real estate developer with projects in several cities across the United States, and now his focus has shifted to the community’s holistic development. “If we are serious about closing the wealth gap, it starts with access to information and a focus on young people. We cannot just rely on our families or schools to do the job. It really does take a village and clear intention,” Yoba reported.
Thoughtfully curated to empower the next generation of aspiring entrepreneurs, From the Ground Up: Flipping the Hood endeavors to grant young people access to the process of wealth creation through real estate development, technology, mentorships, information gathering, and networking. The event will inspire participants to take action, learn, work, and invest together, fostering ownership and agency within their own communities. With access to scholarships, internships, job opportunities, crowdfunding real estate investments, government contracting, investment strategies, partnerships, and joint ventures, this population will be lifted in an exciting and innovative way.
From the Ground Up: Flipping the Hood offers a platform for young people of color to envision themselves as owners, investors, and entrepreneurs, breaking down the barriers that have excluded them from participating in the process of wealth creation for far too long.
